9 photographs inadvertently made by my iPhone in my pocket: a visual poem for Jonathan Gitelson, 2025
These 9 photographs were made unintentionally, by my iPhone while in the pocket of my pants. I was thrilled to discover the randomness and chance of this accidental creation. When I started to play and experiment with processing the photographs, I found something reminiscent of color field painting; a type of abstraction that is painterly, yet truly and purely photographic. Pixels.
These photos can be installed in any pattern, as long as they’re hung in a 3x3 grid. (The above configuration is the preferred orientation of the artist). They are dedicated to my dear friend Jonathan Gitelson whose own work has often included chance and humor. When we were much younger artists, he explored the photographic grid relentlessly.
